PKR: Information

Dr. Marty Redish of Chattanooga, Tennessee is an orthopaedic surgeon who since 2000 has been one of the leading surgeons nationally in the practice and development of the Repicci Technique, a minimally invasive partial knee resurfacing system.  He has performed over 1300 of these surgeries over the last 11 years with a success rate estimated at over 95%. He has worked as a consultant in the development of new products for partial knee resurfacing with the Mako Corporation and Biomet Orthopedics. Dr. Redish's cementing technique has been published and is used to instruct other surgeons. He is currently working to develop improvements in instrumentation for the implantation of the components with the Biomet Corporation, makers of the Repicci II system, the least invasive partial knee on the market, and the most successful as judged by rates of revision. The advantages to the patient are many over total knee replacement.
  • Outpatient or one night hospital stay
  • Minimal blood loss
  • No need for formal physical therapy in 90% of patients
  • Minimal amount of foreign material implanted translates to very low infection rate, no need for antibiotics after dental procedures.
  • The ACL and PCL, important ligamentous stabilizers of the knee, are preserved
  • Patient can walk with a normal gait and rarely lose any flexibility
  • In patients who have a total knee on one side and a partial on the other, 80% prefer the partial, which is more flexible and more natural feeling.
